This is Halloween is probably the most remembered song from the hit 1993 film, The Nightmare Before Christmas. In Danny Elfman's music and lyrics, the residents of "Halloween Town" sing about their life.
The film started its life as a poem, The Nightmare Before Christmas, by Disney animator Tim Burton. Although the poem dated to the early 1980s, it took nearly ten years for the idea to gestate before Burton eventually agreed a development deal with Walt Disney Studios in 1990. Work on the film started the next year with direction by Burton and Henry Selick.
This advanced intermediate arrangement for clarinet quartet captures the sound of the menacing Halloween creatures, while giving each player interesting material to work on. The arrangement aims to capture the variety and complexities of the original orchestral version, albeit with smaller forces. It is not simply a rescoring of a piano reduction.
