My Love She's But a Lassie Yet (Robert Burns)
Traditional Scottish tune arranged for Saxophone Quartet (SATB) by Hugh Levey
This is a fun set of variations on Robert Burns' My Love She's But a Lassie Yet) is sure to entertain in recital, at a Burns Night, St. Andrew's Night or for any occasion where there is a toast to Rabbie or to Scotland.
Although Burns wrote the words of the song, he probably set them to a variation of an existing tune called Lady Badinscoth's Reel.
This lively arrangement for Sax Quartet starts off with a stately ‘classical’ arrangement of My Love She’s But a Lassie Yet, but as it develops the tune combines with another traditional melody, followed by some operatic quotations, and even a five part fugue. It ends with an embellished restatement of the opening. It is great fun for all players.

I love playing traditional Scottish music in the saxophone quartet and I have played a number of different arrangements over the years. This arrangement is excellent and I really enjoyed playing this in the saxophone quartet. All the harmonies were perfect and it went down like a treat at a concert I played in last year.
