Eriskay Love Lilt, 'Fair Love of my Heart', Wind Quintet *REVISED*
Eriskay Love Lilt (Fair Love of my Heart)
Traditional Scottish (Gaelic) song, arranged for Wind Quintet by Hugh Levey
Eriskay Love Lilt's original title was 'Gràdh Geal mo Chridh', which translates as 'Fair Love of my Heart'. It is also known as 'Vair me o' from the words in the chorus.
This beautiful old Scots Gaelic song (Gràdh Geal mo Chridh in Gaelic) was performed in Outlander Series 1 Episode 3. It is presented here in a great arrangement for Wind Quintet. The opening flute solo takes us back to this song's original Gaelic heritage, before moving on to the version of the tune we are all more familiar with.
The arrangement is through-composed, with each instrument playing its own verse in a different arrangement. It ends with the haunting solo flute. This work is ideal for weddings, concerts, funerals, Scottish evenings (e.g. Burns Night) etc. For fans of Outlander, the original Gaelic version of the tune and words is used in Season 1 Episode 3.
