Auld Lang Syne by Robert Burns
Arranged for Saxophone Quartet (SATB) by Hugh Levey
Since Robert Burns wrote the words of Auld Lang Syne in 1788, it has become a standard feature of New Year celebrations, Burns nights, and the closing stages of almost every ceilidh dance and wedding in Burns’ native Scotland. This arrangement is written in a key (concert F major) which is suitable for community or solo singing. Full lyrics for all five verses are included with the programme notes. It can also be used as a short recital piece to close a concert.
It opens with 'bagpipe' drones which accompany a short introduction of the melodic material by Tenor Sax, before Soprano and Alto take over the tune with the drone accompaniment. The final verse is written in a rich 4 part harmony to provide a majestic ending for the popular work.
Duration: 1'48" without repeats for additional verses
Programme notes, performance notes and lyrics: 2 pages
Score: 5 pages
Parts: 4 pages
