Four Scottish Dances Opus 59 by Sir Malcolm Arnold - Sheet Music
Arranged for Wind Quintet by Hugh Levey with permission from the late composer's estate
Sir Malcolm Arnold's entertaining Four Scottish Dances were commissioned by the BBC Light Music Festival in 1957 and were first performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra in that year. The dances are great fun and much loved by professional, amateur and youth orchestras alike. For the first time chamber musicians can now enjoy playing them in this super arrangement for Wind Quintet. We hope you agree that it is a great addition to the repertoire, and a suitable companion piece to Arnold’s Three Shanties which must surely be in the repertoire of all Wind Quintets!
Woodwindly Music would like to thank the late Sir Malcom Arnold's Estate and its beneficiaries for permission to publish this arrangement of the Four Scottish Dances Opus 59.

This is a wonderful transcription from the concert band piece to wind quintet. Parts are well thought out ad each instrument gets many moments to "shine". My ensemble greatly appreciates attention to detail including planned page turns. Well worth your money and rehearsal time!

Thank you so much for your lovely review. As a performing musician myself, I do take great care with my arrangements. Although I have played the concert band version too, this was actually a transcription from the original orchestral score.
What fun!

My WW Quintet is always looking for something new and exciting to play, but there's a lot to be said about an "old friend" too! All five of us had played and loved the John Paynter band arrangement of Malcom Arnold's Four Scottish Dances at sometime in our musical lives. When a friend pointed out there was a quintet arrangement available I immediately ordered it,in electronic form, because we were getting together that very evening for sight reading, Hugh Levey has done an excellent job of reducing parts to five players without losing the whimsical flavor of this favorite. All the well remembered solos and melodies are exactly where expected and it is a delightful read. I highly recommend this arrangement and look forward to seeing Hugh's other arrangements.
