'Allo 'Allo Theme Tune (London Calling) by David Croft and Roy Moore
Sheet Music for Clarinet Quartet by Hugh Levey
The TV series ‘Allo ‘Allo with its iconic theme tune will be fondly remembered by anyone from the UK of a ‘certain age’, and by those who know it from the many repeats on cable and streaming channels. It was also broadcast in other parts of the world and ran for 9 series between 1984 and1992. The show was set in occupied France during the second world war and featured the café of René Artois. René had to contend with serving food and drink to the German officers in his café, while supporting members of the French resistance and concealing British spies. He also did his best to conceal his love affairs from his wife. The comedy was very much of its time but the music is especially delightful.

This charming and witty waltz was originally scored for accordion, bass and percussion, in the style of French café music. It was written by David Croft and Roy Moore as the theme tune for the BBC’s hit comedy series ‘Allo ‘Allo! Not only did Croft write the theme tune, but he was also the scriptwriter with writing partner Jeremy Lloyd. The original theme is a Fast Waltz, but this delicate and intricate clarinet quartet arrangement is best performed a little slower. This allows the detail and quirky harmonies to be savoured and enjoyed.
