The Lord's My Shepherd (Psalm 23)
By Stuart Townend, Arranged for Flexible Worship Ensemble by Hugh Levey
Psalm 23 is one of the most loved Christian hymns. It first appeared as an authorised part of formal praise in the Scottish Psalter of 1650 and remains in the hymn books of most Christian churches today. However, in 1996 contemporary hymn writer and musician Stuart Townend was inspired by the meaning of the words to create his own tune and modern text. Townend's version has also become extremely popular.
This WORSHIP SET works with whatever instruments your Church has at its disposal. It consists of 4 instrumental parts which can be played by a wide variety of string, woodwind and brass instruments, optionally supported by piano, keyboard or guitar (using chord symbols provided). Parts are provided in Bb, C, Eb and F, and in Treble, Alto and Bass clefs. Full score, short score and vocal lead sheet with chord symbols are also provided with this Worship set. The vocal lines use Townend's original melody and chorus response.
Each verse is arranged slightly differently, so that it reflects the words - and to provide sufficient musical interest for it to be used as an instrumental; suitable for contemplative moments in church, weddings, funerals or recitals.
All profits from the sale of this Worship Set will be donated to The James Findlay Nelson Memorial Trust Fund. The fund was set up in memory of James, to further his interests in supporting young people, allowing them opportunities to explore their faith and to care for others in charitable ventures.
