Abide With Me - Last Post
Also known as Eventide or Sunset
By William H. Monk, Arranged for Wind Quintet by Hugh Levey
This is a poignant arrangement that combines the hymn tune Eventide (Abide with Me) with the Last Post bugle call. This combination is sometimes known as Sunset. Abide with Me is a favourite funeral hymn and the Last Post is widely played to mark the loss of life during conflict and is played annually in much of the English speaking world, as part of Remembrance Day commemorations on 11th November.
In this arrangement, the woodwind quartet are the 'choir' gently playing the hymn while the horn combines with them to play the Last Post bugle call. The woodwind parts are Early Intermediate but the French Horn part may be slightly more challenging.
Duration: 2'30"
Programme and Performance Notes: 1 page
Score: 4 pages
